Extras cover wins five stars

Queensland Country Health Fund has been awarded five stars for the State’s most ‘Outstanding Value for Health Insurance - Extras.’

CANSTAR’s Research and Ratings Group Manager, Mitchell Watson said the health insurance industry can be confusing, with so many factors to be considered when choosing a health insurance policy.

The CANSTAR unique star rating helps to take the guess work out of shopping for health insurance.

“Our approach is based on value, so it recognises for the price a consumer pays what they receive back in features and flexibility,” Mr Watson said.

Queensland Country Health Fund was recognised for their Extras products out of a total of 98 health insurance policies from 18 health insurers owing to following:

  • With Essential Extras, you can claim for two routine dental visits as well as one root canal and crown per year if required (after waiting periods).  Similarly priced policies from other funds would only pay benefits for diagnostic and preventive dental.
  • Essential Extras also provides claiming across at least 13 different types of benefits, giving Members more opportunity to use their health cover where it matters most to them.
  • The three levels of extras cover reviewed all provide cover for the basics, while Members needing higher levels of cover are able to upgrade for modest increases in cost.

“Through our review we identified the strength in Queensland Country Health Fund’s offering is the breadth of the inclusions within the policy and how that is balanced against the premium paid,” Mr Watson said.

The Health Fund’s General Manager, Aaron Newman said they were incredibly proud to achieve the award and to be recognised amongst the other big players.

“This award confirms our goal to have the best value Extras products of any health insurer that offers products in Queensland,” Mr Newman said.

“We continually aim to offer genuine value products that provide market leading benefits and competitive premiums.”

So much so, that in 2015 the Health Fund opened their first Member exclusive dental practice in Townsville - Queensland Country Dental - with no gap fees on diagnostic and preventive dental therapies and services for Members with Premium Extras cover.

According to the most recent APRA statistics, 44.5% of Queenslanders hold private hospital cover and 50.2% hold an extras policy.  When it comes to Queensland Country Health Fund, 90% of their Members have both Hospital and Extras cover packages.

“Awards such as CANSTAR are a real boost for building consumer trust. It also validates the genuine value we offer our Members,” Mr Newman said.
